Where the money actually is
Teen business ideas are why most teens quit.
Pay ranges on this page are typical US figures from 2026 and vary by area. Check what people near you actually pay before you set a price.
Search "teen business ideas" and you'll get lists of fifty things someone else thought of. Here's the problem: an idea you were handed is an idea you'll quit on the first time somebody says no — because it was never really yours. What works isn't a list. It's a lane: a place where teenagers really do get paid — and you search it until you find your thing.
Fix, clean, haul — $12–40/hr
Car washing, raking, garage clear-outs, moving help. Costs nothing to start. Your first customer is usually a neighbor you already say hi to, whose yard you've watched get away from them.
Teach what you're a year ahead in — $15–35/hr
A subject, an instrument, a game, software you know cold. The buyer is a parent, not the kid — usually one who's already worried about a grade. That changes who you ask.
Make the fix for something that annoys people — $10–80/item
Start with the complaint, never the product. Who complained, in what words, how often? The thing you make comes out of the complaint. And never make a pile of them before anyone says yes — get the yes first, then make it.
Do the digital thing adults can't — $15–60/job
Editing, setting up devices, socials for a local business that clearly isn't handling it. Your edge: this stuff is easy for you and hard for adults.
Look after living things — $10–30/visit
Pets, plants, fish, while people travel. This one runs on trust: what you're really selling is that they already know you.
How to find yours inside a lane: What do people already ask you for help with? What did someone complain about in front of you this week — in what exact words? What does your family pay someone else to do? The business is buried in one of those answers. FirstMade's coach digs it out with you — and then makes you test it on ten real people, because an idea nobody will pay for isn't a business, it's a hobby.
